Director, International Policy Communications

About the role

Novartis is seeking a Director of International Policy Communications to shape global policy dialogue. Based in Basel, you will bridge policy, public affairs and communications, turning complex healthcare, regulatory and access issues into clear, credible narratives that influence key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve a global policy communications strategy aligned with enterprise and Public Affairs priorities.
• Shape integrated policy narratives that strengthen Novartis’ positioning across international markets.
• Translate complex policy, regulatory and access dynamics into strategic messaging for external audiences.
• Design scalable frameworks, toolkits and messaging architectures for consistent local execution.
• Lead scenario planning and strategic response strategies for enterprise‑wide preparedness.
• Coordinate cross‑functional alignment with Public Affairs, Value and Access, Patient Advocacy and Communications leaders.
• Leverage data, insights and artificial intelligence to inform strategy and enhance predictive communications capabilities.
• Serve as the central strategic integrator ensuring coherence and impact across regions and policy ecosystems.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in policy communications, public affairs or corporate communications within multinational organisations.
• Proven track record at Director level with tangible impact and delivery.
• Deep expertise in the geopolitical landscape, especially across Europe; experience in APMA or other regions is a strong advantage.
• Data‑driven mindset with experience leveraging insights and AI to shape communications strategy.
• Demonstrated success working in highly matrixed, international environments.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across Public Affairs, Communications and senior business leaders.
