Administrative Officer – Human Rights Inquiries

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking an Administrative Officer to support the Human Rights Inquiries Branch (HRIB) in Geneva. Reporting to the Chief of HRIB, the incumbent will ensure smooth administration of human resources, budget, finance and general office operations.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate recruitment, placement, promotion, performance appraisal and staff separation in line with UN Staff Rules.
• Assist in preparing and monitoring the HRIB work programme and budget, producing regular programme reports.
• Develop and implement financial management procedures consistent with UN policies.
• Oversee procurement, vendor contract evaluation, travel arrangements and office technology maintenance.
• Collect, analyse and visualise data to support decision‑making and reporting.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of UN administrative, budgetary, financial and human‑resources policies.
• Ability to apply UN rules and regulations to real‑world situations.
• Analytical mindset with experience in independent research and issue identification.
• Leadership skills to guide junior staff and provide guidance on financial administration.
