Category Manager Procurement

About the role

Abbott is seeking a Category Manager Procurement to lead the sourcing and supplier relationship management of direct materials (API, excipients) for its Branded Generics business in the EU. The role will guide a team of procurement managers, drive category strategy, and ensure alignment with long‑term growth plans.

Key responsibilities

• Manage procurement, contracts, negotiations and supplier relationships for direct materials across a multimillion‑euro spend and over 100 global suppliers.
• Develop and implement a procurement management strategy that supports the company’s long‑range plan (LRP).
• Build market insight capability to monitor supply market dynamics, trends and benchmark against peers.
• Lead stakeholder engagement up to DVP level to secure resources and support for category strategy execution.
• Minimize regulatory impact on operations and leverage it for competitive advantage.
• Design, implement and optimize the global supplier landscape, including material flow and financial integration.
• Drive annual performance improvements and cost‑saving initiatives.
• Maintain a supplier relationship roadmap aligned with overall procurement expectations.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading procurement teams and managing large, global supplier bases.
• Strong understanding of pharmaceutical supply chains, regulatory requirements and market dynamics.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute category strategies that deliver cost savings.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, including interaction with senior leadership.
