Computing Engineer – Data Storage System

About the role

CERN is seeking a passionate Computing Engineer to join the IT Storage and Data Management group. You will work on CERNBox, the cloud storage service used by the CERN community, and help make it interoperable across European research infrastructures and the European Open Science Cloud.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and integrate backend software components for cloud‑native storage services.
• Package, test and deploy services using Kubernetes and Helm on on‑premises and public clouds.
• Contribute code, features and fixes to the open‑source CERNBox projects.
• Participate in the operations team: troubleshoot incidents and support users.
• Collaborate with partner institutions across Europe to validate and refine tools.

Required profile

• Strong interest or experience in backend development and cloud‑native deployment.
• Enjoys hands‑on problem solving, troubleshooting and user support.
• Comfortable working with international teams and external partners.
• Willingness to learn basic French or English if not already fluent.
