Device Software Engineer (Member of Technical Staff)

About the role

Domera Labs is creating Ami, an AI‑driven voice‑first companion for seniors. As a Member of Technical Staff – Device Software Engineer you will own the on‑device software that powers Ami, from voice interaction to cloud connectivity, ensuring a reliable out‑of‑the‑box experience for users without screens or technical support.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and ship the on‑device application and services, including real‑time audio streaming, cloud communication, local state management, and recovery from network interruptions.
• Implement device identity, provisioning, secure key storage, and fleet‑wide diagnostics (BLE, USB‑C) for field debugging and factory testing.
• Lead the first‑boot onboarding flow that a senior can complete alone, handling Wi‑Fi, BLE, and optional cellular provisioning.
• Manage flash layout, A/B OTA updates with rollback, staged rollouts, and ensure no bricking occurs.
• Define base platform behaviors such as boot/recovery, button/LED mapping, audio feedback, power states, and battery optimization.
• Collaborate with ODM and silicon partners on microphone array, echo cancellation, wake‑word detection, and latency budgeting.
• Drive the device through EVT, DVT, and PVT milestones as the technical counterpart to the ODM.

Required profile

• Builder’s mindset: ship, measure, iterate.
• Ability to stay focused amid competing priorities and ambiguous requirements.
• Comfort working across research and engineering teams.
• Willingness to operate at a founding level, shaping architecture directly with the founders.

Required skills

• Delivered a connected consumer device to mass production.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Android/AOSP development using Kotlin/Java and native C/C++ components.
• Embedded Linux experience and Python proficiency for tooling and testing.
• Experience with Qualcomm platforms, Wi‑Fi, BLE, and cellular connectivity.
• Deep knowledge of OTA, secure boot, A/B partitioning, and fleet‑wide update management.
• Ability to debug across application code, platform services, and hardware interfaces.
