Human Rights Officer

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking a Human Rights Officer to support the integration of human rights and gender‑equality considerations into economic, political and humanitarian programmes. The incumbent will report to the Chief of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights or a designated senior official.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct substantive research and analysis of human‑rights and economic‑policy issues, assessing their impact on the assigned region or country.
• Collect and analyse gender‑specific human‑rights and economic data and indicators.
• Support sub‑commissions, commissions and other bodies, and follow up on the implementation of their decisions.
• Integrate human‑rights and gender‑equality dimensions into political, humanitarian and economic programmes.
• Define work plans in line with terms of reference and assist national security forces in developing training programmes on human rights, international humanitarian law, democracy and the rule of law.
• Supervise field verification visits and represent the UN human‑rights programme at working‑level meetings.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and produce reports, briefings and statements for policy‑making bodies.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of human‑rights law, economic policy and gender‑equality issues.
• Excellent research, analytical and report‑writing abilities.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including governments, NGOs and UN bodies.
• Professionalism, reliability and capacity to meet deadlines under pressure.
