Senior Hardware Design Engineer

About the role

u-blox is looking for an experienced Senior Hardware Design Engineer to lead the architecture, design, and development of next‑generation low‑power hardware products and internal support boards. You will be responsible for delivering integrated hardware, firmware, and automated test cases, as well as maintaining the product throughout its production lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Capture system‑level and subsystem‑level requirements through deep technical collaboration with product managers and other departments.
• Lead hardware architecture, schematic capture, and multi‑layer PCB layout.
• Assemble, test, and debug initial prototypes in the lab.
• Develop and execute comprehensive Design Verification Testing (DVT) and validation plans.
• Ensure compliance with EMI/EMC, safety, and environmental standards.
• Work with manufacturing partners to transition designs to high‑volume production (DFM/DFT).
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid‑level engineers.

Required profile

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of hands‑on electronic hardware design experience.
• Excellent English communication skills for technical discussions, presentations, and documentation.
• Experience working in a team environment, preferably Scrum.

Required skills

• Proficiency with EDA tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, or KiCad.
• Strong background in RF or wireless communications design (noise figure, sensitivity, transmission lines, impedance matching, Smith chart).
• Analog circuit design expertise.
• Power management circuit design.
• PCB layout and schematic capture.
• Design Verification Testing (DVT) and hardware validation.
• EMI/EMC compliance knowledge.
