Senior Technical Advisor – Finance Initiative

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor to support the UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Nature Programme. The consultant will lead the preparation of a status update report on the implementation of the High‑level Roadmap for aligning financial flows with the Global Biodiversity Framework, ahead of key international events.

Key responsibilities

• Produce the second status update report titled “From Cali to Yerevan: Is the Financial System on Track?”
• Assess progress across the Roadmap’s three recommendation areas (Prepare, Implement, Engage) and evaluate alignment with Global Biodiversity Framework Targets 14, 15, 18 and 19.
• Review and comment on UNEP FI nature‑themed deliverables to ensure technical quality and coherence with the broader sustainable‑finance agenda.
• Coordinate with government policymakers, financial supervisory entities, central banks, and public and private financial institutions.
• Integrate UN core values, a human‑rights‑based approach, gender equality, and the principle of leaving no one behind throughout the work.

Required profile

• Senior‑level expertise in nature‑related financial risks, dependencies, and impacts.
• Demonstrated experience working with financial institutions, regulators, or government finance ministries on sustainability or biodiversity issues.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear assessments.
• Commitment to UN values, including gender equality and inclusive development.
