Senior Legal Officer – Fixed‑Term (P‑4)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Senior Legal Officer (P‑4) to join its Department of Legal Affairs on a one‑year fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of extension. The incumbent will provide high‑level legal advice and support to senior management, regional and country offices, and ensure compliance with IOM’s legal framework.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Director General, Deputy Directors General and senior staff on legal matters affecting IOM operations.
• Support the Contracts Law Division, General and Administrative Law Division, and Institutional Law and Programme Support Division.
• Provide legal analysis on misconduct cases, disciplinary procedures, and staff contracts.
• Ensure IOM activities comply with the IOM Constitution, Unified Staff Regulations, Financial Regulations, and applicable international law.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, memoranda of understanding and other legal instruments.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in law (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent).
• Significant experience in international or public‑sector legal affairs, preferably within the UN system.
• Strong knowledge of international migration law, administrative law and contract law.
• Ability to work independently and provide sound legal advice to senior officials.
