Associate Professor – Machine Learning & NLP (Social Media Analytics)

About the role

The School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW seeks an Associate Professor to lead teaching and research in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Social Media Analytics. This senior academic position will shape the strategic direction of AI research and education, focusing on large language models and trustworthy AI systems.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑impact research with national and international visibility in AI, NLP, and social media analytics.
• Secure competitive research funding and lead research initiatives.
• Supervise higher degree research students to successful completion.
• Deliver high‑quality teaching and contribute to curriculum development.
• Engage with industry partners and contribute to the School’s research profile and strategic planning.

Required profile

• Established academic with a strong, sustained record of high‑impact research in AI and NLP.
• National or international reputation in large language models, social media analytics, model alignment, or interpretability.
• Proven ability to obtain research funding and lead research projects.
• Experience supervising graduate research students.
• Effective educator with experience in teaching and curriculum design.
