Construction Project Engineer – Site & Civil Engineering

About the role

As a Construction Project Engineer in the Site and Civil Engineering Department’s Project Portfolio Management Group, you will support the delivery of complex construction projects at CERN. Reporting to a CERN Project Manager, you will coordinate site activities, manage stakeholder interfaces and ensure projects meet technical, schedule, budget and safety targets.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise construction works, ensuring compliance with contractual drawings and specifications in liaison with external consultants.
• Implement and monitor safety measures on worksites, identify potential issues and manage defect remediation.
• Participate in testing, commissioning and hand‑over activities.
• Contribute to design, coordination and procurement phases, monitoring consultants’ deliverables.
• Coordinate on‑site interfaces between contractors and CERN specialised services, organise work according to the construction schedule.
• Monitor progress, quality and budget of works in close collaboration with the project manager.

Required profile

• Experience in civil engineering design or on‑site construction work and coordination.
• Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project.
• Familiarity with construction project management tools and methodologies.
• Ability to produce quality‑control documentation, procedures, reports and minutes.
• Fluent written and spoken English or French, with willingness to learn the other language.
• National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• Master’s degree with 2‑6 years post‑graduation experience or PhD with ≤3 years experience; no previous CERN fellow or graduate contract.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract of 24 months, extendable up to 36 months.
• Full‑time onsite work (40 hours/week) starting 01‑January‑2027.
• Monthly stipend of 6 372–7 004 CHF (tax‑free).
