About the role
This internship with the Environment and Forests Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva offers a unique opportunity to support high‑level environmental assessments and policy work. The placement runs from 1 June to 31 August 2026 and is designed for students with a strong interest in environmental policy, law, sciences or international relations.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in preparing the 4th Environmental Performance Review (EPR) for the Republic of Moldova and the Regional EPR for Central Asia, as well as supporting the publication of EPRs for Uzbekistan and Mongolia.
- Support the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Programme, including work for the Joint Working Group on environmental statistics and indicators and an EU‑funded project.
- Help launch a national State of the Environment report and contribute to capacity‑development activities such as webinars, drafting project documents and training materials.
- Provide general assistance including drafting, editing, background research and correspondence.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or having completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree.
- Studies in environmental policy, environmental law, environmental sciences, international relations or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Required skills
- Proficiency with standard computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
