Financial Accountant – Renewable Energy

About the role

Financial Accountant position supporting a fast‑growing international renewable energy business in Switzerland. The role combines day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities with exposure to cross‑border renewable energy trading, biomethane, green certificates and international VAT.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily financial accounting and bookkeeping activities for the Swiss entity.
• Prepare monthly financial and management reports.
• Support and manage monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing processes.
• Prepare and manage VAT filings and claims in Switzerland and other European jurisdictions.
• Develop knowledge of VAT requirements as the company expands internationally.
• Handle complex accounting reconciliations and financial data, working extensively with Excel.
• Support accounting processes linked to cross‑border renewable energy trading and green certificates.
• Collaborate with external advisers and counterparties while progressively bringing activities in‑house.
• Identify opportunities to improve and streamline existing accounting processes.
• Assist the wider finance function as the Swiss and international business grows.

Required profile

• Professional experience in financial accounting, bookkeeping or a related finance function.
• Strong practical knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience preparing or supporting monthly, quarterly and annual closings.
• Exposure to VAT returns, claims or compliance.
• Interest in developing knowledge of international and cross‑border VAT.
• Excellent attention to detail and a highly structured approach to numbers.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting processes.
• Fluent German and good working English.
• Previous experience in energy, commodities, trading or renewable energy is advantageous but not essential.
