Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor – Intellectual Disability Mental Health

About the role

The University of New South Wales seeks a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to lead research, teaching and clinical capacity building in intellectual and developmental disability mental health. The fixed‑term appointment runs until 23 April 2027 and can be undertaken at 0.5–1.0 FTE, full‑time or part‑time.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a translational, co‑designed research programme aimed at improving mental health outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism.
• Collaborate with NSW Health, government agencies, healthcare providers and people with lived experience to strengthen clinical and research capacity.
• Develop and deliver innovative education initiatives and mentor emerging researchers.
• Contribute to teaching and research within the Discipline of Psychiatry and Mental Health at UNSW Medicine & Health.
• Report to the Director of the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health.

Required profile

• MBBS/MD, PhD or equivalent distinguished experience in psychiatry, psychology or a related health discipline.
• Extensive experience in intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to staying current with discipline knowledge.
• Proven record of high‑impact, high‑quality research.
• Experience developing and delivering face‑to‑face and online education and training.
• Established relationships with external stakeholders, including government and community organisations.

• Annual remuneration $155,000–$185,000 AUD plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
