About the role

A-ROSA is seeking a qualified 2nd Captain to manage ship operations, ensure safety, and support the 1st Captain on premium river vessels across Europe. You will play a key role in daily navigation, crew coordination, and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage ship operations and represent the vessel to passengers.
• Maintain ship logs, ensure seaworthiness and safety compliance with inland navigation regulations.
• Support the 1st Captain in navigation and assume command when absent.
• Organise crew activities, port operations, and oversee deck and below‑deck maintenance.
• Promote economical resource use and implement environmental sustainability measures.
• Prepare shipyard and winter lists and assist with clearance formalities.

Required profile

• Captain’s license for the Danube or Rhine (from Dutch border to Basel).
• Boatman’s booklet and valid medical certificate.
• Several years of experience on the Danube (Passau–Delta) or Rhine and tributaries, including Dutch rivers.
• Strong teamwork, operational leadership, and a solution‑oriented work style.
• Well‑groomed appearance with good German and English communication skills.

Required skills

• Radar observer certificate.
• Advanced fire‑fighting training.
• Radio operator’s certificate.
• Qualified Expert for Passenger Ship Navigation (Rhine).
• Experience with modern propulsion systems such as Schottel.
