Head of Humanitarian Trends and Analysis Unit

About the role

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) seeks a senior leader to head its Humanitarian Trends and Analysis Unit. This role will steer a global team of analysts in delivering open-source intelligence that informs the ICRC’s strategic and operational decisions in a volatile world.

Key responsibilities

• Define the unit’s strategic orientation, set objectives and priorities during annual planning and ensure their execution.
• Prepare, manage and monitor the unit’s budget.
• Lead, motivate and supervise a diverse, worldwide analyst team to produce high-quality, actionable insights.
• Present findings to senior leadership and contribute to strategic platforms, highlighting emerging trends and their impact on operations and reputation.
• Coordinate multi-perspective analyses with the Director General, Operations and Policy teams, especially incorporating viewpoints from the Global South.
• Oversee flagship analytical products such as “On the Radar”, Global Trends Report, weekly briefs and quarterly reports.
• Co-design and lead collaborative research initiatives, academic partnerships and scholar exchange programmes.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading high-performing analytical or research teams in an international or humanitarian context.
• Strong understanding of geopolitical, security and humanitarian trends.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for senior audiences.
• Ability to manage budgets and drive strategic planning.
• Commitment to the ICRC’s mission and values.
