Humanitarian Affairs Intern

About the role

The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Geneva is looking for a motivated Humanitarian Affairs Intern. This six‑month, full‑time, unpaid internship offers hands‑on experience in mine action advocacy, research, and coordination within the UN humanitarian framework.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in organising the 30th International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and UN Advisers (NDM‑UN30) scheduled for April 2027.
• Conduct research and draft documents on UNMAS advocacy priorities, including International Humanitarian Law and risk‑management integration.
• Prepare drafts related to the Anti‑Personnel Mine Ban Convention, Cluster Munitions Convention, CCW and CRPD.
• Support engagement with the humanitarian community and UNMAS’s role as Global Coordinator for mine action.
• Analyse and present information on the humanitarian impact of explosive ordnance.
• Draft analysis notes, letters, background briefs, and inputs for reports.
• Monitor Human Rights Council deliberations on anti‑personnel mines.
• Attend relevant meetings and provide briefing notes.
• Contribute to daily administrative tasks and prepare social‑media posts following the office communication strategy.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed a graduate‑level programme (second university degree or equivalent).
• Ability to work full‑time (35 hours per week) on site in Geneva.
• Strong interest in humanitarian affairs, mine action, and international advocacy.
