Senior Legal Advisor – Data Protection

About the role

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is seeking a Senior Legal Advisor to lead its Data Protection Office in Geneva. Reporting to the Managing Legal Counsel and the Head of the Data Protection Office, you will provide expert legal counsel on data protection and privacy matters across the global Federation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and services to IFRC worldwide on data protection and privacy issues.
• Guide National Societies (NSs) on compliance with data protection and privacy regulations.
• Advise on the management of compliance and legal risk related to data handling.
• Deliver authoritative legal opinions on specific Federation Secretariat activities.
• Support the development and implementation of data protection policies and procedures.
• Travel periodically to regional offices and delegations as required.

Required profile

• Advanced legal qualification (e.g., LL.B., J.D., or equivalent).
• Significant experience in data protection, privacy law, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven ability to advise senior management and diverse stakeholders on complex legal matters.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with a global perspective.
