AI Research Scientist

About the role

Giotto.ai is seeking an AI Research Scientist to design, train, evaluate, and improve advanced AI systems. The role bridges deep‑learning research, applied machine learning, and scalable engineering, focusing on large language models, multimodal reasoning, synthetic data generation, and model adaptation.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute research projects on LLMs, reasoning, multimodal models, synthetic data, and model adaptation.
• Design experiments to test hypotheses, compare architectures, and evaluate training strategies.
• Train, fine‑tune, and evaluate transformer‑based models using modern deep‑learning frameworks.
• Implement supervised fine‑tuning, preference optimization, LoRA/PEFT, distillation, and data augmentation techniques.
• Build robust benchmarks and diagnostic evaluations for reasoning, generalisation, reliability, and task‑specific performance.
• Analyse model failures and propose improvements across data, architecture, objectives, prompting, or inference.
• Collaborate with ML engineers to scale experiments across GPUs and distributed infrastructure.
• Contribute clean, reproducible research code, experiment configurations, documentation, and internal reports.

Required profile

• Strong experience with deep learning, especially transformer architectures and modern sequence models.
• Hands‑on experience in LLM training, fine‑tuning, evaluation, or inference.
• Proven ability to move from ambiguous research questions to concrete hypotheses, experiments, and production‑ready methods.
