Associate Human Rights Officer (TJO)

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking an Associate Human Rights Officer (TJO) to join the National Institutions, Regional Mechanisms Unit (NIRMU) in Geneva. The incumbent will support the analysis, reporting and capacity‑building activities related to national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and their gender dimensions.

Key responsibilities

• Research and collect information on human‑rights issues concerning NHRIs from diverse sources, monitoring developments and assessing impacts.
• Draft reports, correspondence and briefing notes on human‑rights situations and thematic mandates.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of political and legal developments in assigned countries.
• Engage with the Global Alliance of NHRIs, organise and deliver training programmes and workshops at national, regional and global levels.
• Analyse gender‑related human‑rights data, produce visualisations and maintain databases tracking project progress.
• Liaise with governments, NGOs, UN agencies and civil‑society partners to generate baseline data and promote the Paris Principles and OHCHR guidelines.
• Support community mobilisation initiatives and contribute to discussions aimed at preventing violations.
• Perform other duties as required.

Required profile

• University degree in law, international relations, human‑rights studies or a related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of human‑rights frameworks, including the Paris Principles.
• Experience in research, data collection and analysis, preferably with a gender perspective.
• Strong written communication skills for drafting reports and briefing notes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in an international environment.
