Associate Information Analyst (2 positions)

About the role

The Associate Information Analyst positions are based in the Judicial Support and Cooperation Section of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM). They support investigations and prosecutions of the most serious crimes under international law committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011. The role reports to a P3 Analyst and works under the overall supervision of a P4 Legal Officer/RFA Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing research and analysis strategies and conduct research in the IIIM repository and open‑source material to identify evidence for investigations.
• Gather, evaluate and analyse information to determine relevance, gaps and to inform judicial support decisions.
• Organise and synthesize evidence using analytical software to support requests for assistance and proactive sharing.
• Maintain and update internal databases, applying information‑management processes and electronic systems.
• Participate in briefings and conferences with national judicial authorities, civil‑society actors, UN entities and other partners.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in criminology, law, Middle Eastern studies, conflict/security studies, international relations, human rights, political/social science or related field (or equivalent combination of degree and experience).
• Minimum two years of progressively responsible experience in information analysis related to criminal investigations, international humanitarian law, human rights or the Middle East/North Africa region.
• Fluency in English and Arabic at UN Level III (reading, writing, listening, speaking).

Required skills

• Proficiency with analytical software and electronic information‑management systems.
• Strong research methodologies, including digital source analysis.
• Ability to organise, synthesize and present complex information and evidence.
