Automation Engineer – Magnet Industrialisation

Proxima Fusion is seeking an Automation Engineer to support the industrialisation of magnet production for its next‑generation stellarator fusion plants. The role involves designing, programming, and operating automation cells that perform processes such as welding, bonding, sealing, and coating. You will advise on line design, define automation requirements, develop control strategies, build and commission cells, and run factory acceptance tests at supplier sites. Collaboration with engineers and technicians across magnet design, HTS technology, manufacturing, and controls is essential, as is contributing to process development and prototyping with scalability in mind. The position requires a master’s degree in mechanical, mechatronics or a related field, extensive hands‑on experience in robotics and industrial automation, and proficiency with robotic simulation tools (RoboGuide, RobotStudio, Process Simulate). Familiarity with FANUC systems, industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Ethernet, Profinet), PLC programming, and CAD tools (Catia V5, 3DExperience) is expected. The ideal candidate is proactive, solution‑oriented, and comfortable working across design, engineering, and production tasks in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.
