Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our team at our Swiss headquarters in Mendrisio. The role involves taking end‑to‑end ownership of product features, from system design and backend architecture through to integration, deployment and observability. You will also help shape the integration of AI tools into our development workflow and product offerings.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using modern languages and frameworks.
• Write clean, idiomatic code with comprehensive unit tests, documentation and conduct code reviews.
• Collaborate with front‑end developers, UI/UX designers and product managers to deliver new features quickly.
• Work closely with the SRE team to ensure smooth deployments and effective error logging.
• Participate in the Backend Chapter, contributing to technical discussions and cross‑team initiatives.
• Drive the shift to an AI‑first ecosystem by evaluating and integrating AI‑generated code responsibly.

Required profile

• Proven experience building backend systems, preferably with Kotlin or Python.
• Strong understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and key‑value stores such as Redis.
• Familiarity with modern web APIs (REST, WebSocket, GraphQL).
• Experience using Git repositories (GitHub or Bitbucket) and containerisation (Docker).
• Comfort with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and cloud‑native design patterns.
• Ability to implement observability, logging and error‑tracking in production.
• Security‑mindset with secure coding practices.
• Fluent English communication skills.
