Cardio-Renal Discovery & Scientific Strategy Area Leader

About the role

The Cardio-Renal Discovery Area Leader will shape Roche's early‑stage pipeline for cardiovascular and renal diseases, driving innovative target identification and preclinical development. Reporting to the Discovery Head of CVRM, the role combines scientific strategy with team leadership in Basel.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute scientific strategy for novel target validation across cardiovascular and renal segments.
• Lead interdisciplinary teams working on small molecules, RNA‑based therapeutics, and advanced biologics.
• Oversee phenotypic screening using 3D cardiac organoids and kidney‑on‑a‑chip platforms.
• Ensure scientific integrity of preclinical pharmacology and design IND/CTA‑enabling packages.
• Evaluate external assets and biotech platforms through scouting and due‑diligence.

Required profile

• 10+ years of progressive experience in biopharma or premier academic translation, with a track record of advancing CV/renal assets to IND/CTA filing.
• PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in cardiovascular physiology, renal physiology, pharmacology, molecular biology or related life‑science discipline.
• Deep mechanistic expertise in cardiorenal biology, including CKD, myocardial remodeling, and atherosclerosis.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Expertise in small‑molecule, RNA‑based therapeutic and biologic modalities.
• Hands‑on experience with 3D cardiac organoids and kidney‑on‑a‑chip models.
• Strong background in preclinical pharmacology and IND/CTA package preparation.
