Chief of Service – Programme Management

About the role

The Strategic Heritage Plan at the United Nations Office at Geneva seeks a senior leader to direct its Programme Management Service. Reporting to the Project Director, the Chief of Service will guide a team of about 16 staff and contractors to deliver the project by the end of 2028.

Key responsibilities

• Formulate and implement the work programme of the Strategic Heritage Plan, set priorities and allocate resources.
• Lead, supervise and coordinate a multidisciplinary team, ensuring timely delivery of all activities.
• Manage programme‑management, financial control and contracting arrangements, applying UN regulations and project‑management methodologies.
• Prepare and present reports to intergovernmental bodies such as the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budget Questions and the General Assembly.
• Represent the project in budget and programme performance discussions with external stakeholders.
• Oversee internal and external audit responses and ensure high‑quality outputs.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in programme and project management within an international or UN context.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
• Strong knowledge of UN financial and administrative regulations.
• Excellent coordination and communication abilities for interaction with intergovernmental bodies.
