Chief Technical Officer (CTO) – Shipping Operations

About the role

The Chief Technical Officer leads all technical operations of A-ROSA’s river vessels, ensuring safety, reliability and regulatory compliance while supporting the captain and crew.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and organise technical operations of the ship, including propulsion and auxiliary systems.
• Manage personnel, schedule maintenance, and oversee dockyard periods.
• Ensure class certification deadlines are met and maintain technical documentation.
• Order fuel, lubricants and spare parts, and supervise waste disposal in line with environmental regulations.
• Perform deck‑watch duties when the vessel is docked.

Required profile

• Vocational training in engine or metal industry with a seafarer’s service book and current medical fitness.
• Experience in river or ocean shipping and strong leadership/teamwork skills.
• High resilience, stress resistance and excellent communication abilities.
• Organisational talent, initiative, attention to detail and a strong technical affinity.

Required skills

• Ship operation technology and propulsion system knowledge.
• Maintenance of main propulsion, auxiliary and hotel‑related technical systems.
• Technical documentation and machine/oil log management.
