CITES Intern – Office of the Secretary General

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a motivated intern to support the CITES Secretariat in Geneva. Working under the direct supervision of the Secretary‑General of the CITES Secretariat, you will contribute to the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and organizing high‑level CITES events, including annual meetings and ad‑hoc workshops.
• Compile and prepare analyses of information in response to calls for information from Parties to the Convention.
• Support communication and social‑media activities for the Secretary‑General.
• Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s programme, a graduate programme, or already holding a university degree.
• Academic background in economics, social sciences, communications, international relations, diplomacy or related fields.
• Ability to conduct research, provide analytical and programmatic support, and organise and analyse data.
