Customer Application Engineer (80-100%)

About the role

ABB is looking for a Customer Application Engineer (80-100% time) who will drive application expertise across its Critical Power portfolio. Reporting to the Chapter Leader Application Engineering, the engineer acts as a bridge between customers, Sales, Product Management and R&D, helping turn market needs into technical solutions and contributing to future product innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Build expertise in customer applications, solution architectures, market segments and value propositions for the Critical Power portfolio, supporting Sales with fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Develop and maintain standards, methodologies, tools, best practices, reference architectures and reusable application frameworks.
• Act as a subject matter expert for strategic customer applications and foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across Sales, Product Management, R&D and other Agile Units.
• Capture market trends, customer needs and application requirements and turn them into actionable insights for product development.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems or a related field.
• More than 5 years of professional experience in Critical Power, UPS systems, Energy Storage, Power Conversion or related applications.
• Experience supporting Sales through technical consulting, customer engagement and channel enablement.
• Experience developing standards, methodologies, tools and best practices within a technical organization.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across customers, channel partners, Sales, Product Management and R&D.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of customer applications, solution architectures, market segments and channel dynamics.
• Ability to translate customer requirements into differentiated technical solutions aligned with business strategy.
• Knowledge of international standards and regulations, including Grid Codes and utility operator requirements such as NERC, ERCOT, Fingrid and IEEE 2800.
