Design Liaison Engineering Intern

About the role

The Design Liaison Engineering (DLE) team, part of the Gas Turbine Engineering organization, supports global supply chain partners and ensures technical rigor, product quality and timely delivery. As a DLE Engineering Intern within the STEPS program, you will support the design and manufacturing of gas turbine flow path hardware such as blades, vanes, heat shields and linkage assemblies, working with engineering, manufacturing and supply chain teams. The internship lasts up to 12 months at the GE Vernova office in Birr, Switzerland.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and help resolve non-conforming hardware using engineering tools and methods
• Support redesign efforts through engineering drawing updates
• Assist with qualification of hardware for second-source suppliers and process or design changes
• Take part in technical reviews and risk assessments at component and assembly level
• Follow established engineering standards, templates and standard work
• Contribute to improvements in manufacturability, quality and cost
• Collaborate across engineering and global supply chain to support hardware delivery

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field at a Swiss university
• English fluency required
• Strong organizational and communication skills, able to work in a cross-functional global organization
• Humble, open-minded, self-motivated and comfortable managing changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Required skills

• Mechanical design fundamentals: stress, fatigue, creep, materials, tolerancing and design for manufacturability
• Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and reading engineering drawings and bills of materials
• Familiarity with forging, casting, machining, coatings, inspection and fixturing
• Finite Element Analysis (e.g. Ansys) and 3D CAD (e.g. NX)
• Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word
