Design Manager - Electrical Engineering

About the role

Mercury, the European leader in construction solutions, is looking for a Design Manager in Zurich. The company builds and manages complex engineering and construction projects for leading corporations, covering sectors such as enterprise data centres, advanced technology and life sciences, hyperscale data centres and fire protection. The role leads an experienced design team and works closely with the client, project manager and consultants.

Key responsibilities

• Help develop the design delivery schedule together with the client, project manager, design team and consultants.
• Prepare scope-of-work documents and contract deliverable lists for each discipline, and negotiate scope, deliverables and price with consulting firms.
• Procure design from a consultant design partner from the first tender enquiry to appointment.
• Track internal and external design and cost issues and manage the distribution of workload between the project team and design consultants.
• Review completed designs for accuracy and precision, manage design document control and prioritise design work for designers.
• Supervise the design team, monitor milestones and implement a recovery plan if slippage occurs.
• Take part in departmental strategic planning, design meetings and planning, programming and reporting.
• Support internal and external customers and liaise with clients, insurers, consultants and architects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; electrical engineering background preferred.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in data centre, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or large industrial construction plants.
• Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing teams of engineers and direct reports.
• Project management experience across all design phases, including design fees, time and cost management.

• Experience working in a BIM environment.

• Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
