Director of Data Engineering

About the role

This senior data leadership position is based in Switzerland and is fully remote. You will own the data roadmap, architecture, and company‑wide data model, creating a trusted single source of truth for core business information while guiding a small engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve the data roadmap, architecture, and enterprise data model.
• Modernize legacy pipelines, reduce technical debt, and ensure platform scalability.
• Maintain resilient, reliable, and accurate data pipelines across the organization.
• Establish data quality, governance, monitoring, and observability practices.
• Manage warehouse and infrastructure costs as data volumes grow.
• Lead intake, sprint planning, and prioritization based on business impact.
• Coach and develop a small data engineering team through mentorship and clear growth paths.
• Integrate new enterprise systems, including ERP platforms, into the data ecosystem.
• Introduce AI‑native workflows using AI agents for development, incident investigation, and data quality.

Required profile

• 8+ years in data architecture or engineering, with at least 3 years leading teams.
• Proven experience building cloud‑based data platforms (e.g., BigQuery).
• Strong hands‑on expertise in SQL and Python, and experience with dbt or similar modeling frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of data modeling, quality, governance, and observability.
• Experience managing sprint‑based intake and delivery for a data team.
• Familiarity with ELT tools such as Fivetran.
• Background in DTC or CPG environments is a plus.
• Hands‑on leadership style with strong judgment and prioritization skills.
