Electro‑Mechanical Technician – CERN (24‑month contract)

About the role

You will join CERN’s technical team to inspect, maintain and validate electro‑mechanical DC switching systems used in the Large Hadron Collider. The position involves hands‑on work with high‑current energy extraction equipment, assembly of interface cables, and execution of performance tests on new hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and fine‑tune high‑current extraction systems in the LHC.
• Assemble interface cables, mechanical structures and back‑plane electronics.
• Participate in CAD design of mechanical and electronic components.
• Produce and use test equipment, perform electrical and mechanical validation tests.
• Order, receive and manage components for assembly and repairs.
• Support soldering and mounting of low‑voltage PCBs, connectors and other electro‑mechanical parts.

Required profile

• Maximum two years of professional experience after graduation in electricity, electronics, electrotechnics or mechatronics.
• National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• Never previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
• Basic knowledge of electricity, electrotechnics or electronics.
• Good communication skills in English or French, with willingness to learn the other language.

Required skills

• Soldering low‑voltage electronic components and PCBs.
• Mechanical mounting and dismounting of electro‑mechanical parts.
• Use of measurement instrumentation and debugging equipment.
• CAD design of mechanical/electronic components.
• Component procurement and inventory management.
• Electrical testing and validation procedures.
