Engineering Lead – Optical Networks

About the role

Connect44 is looking for a hands-on Engineering Lead to support the delivery of next-generation Access Network projects in Switzerland. The role is based in Zurich and is offered as a contract position. The lead works alongside engineering teams, customers and delivery partners, with a focus on fiber access networks such as 50G PON.

Key responsibilities

• Drive technical delivery by supporting and leading the rollout of Access Network solutions, including 10G/50G PON technologies.
• Plan activities, coordinate teams and partners, follow up on progress and keep projects moving.
• Act as a bridge between technical teams, project management, customers and subcontractors.
• Identify risks and challenges early and proactively drive solutions.
• Contribute to project planning, progress reporting, issue management and stakeholder coordination.
• Challenge existing processes and propose more efficient ways of working.

Required profile

• A proactive attitude, responsibility and accountability, and a willingness to learn new technologies.
• Adaptability in a fast-moving environment and good problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication with engineers, partners and customers, and good organization.
• Professional English; German is an advantage.

Required skills

• Ideally experience in telecommunications, especially Access Networks, FTTx or Transport Networks.
• Familiarity with GPON, XGS-PON or other PON technologies.
• Exposure to Huawei Access Network platforms, particularly MA5800, is a strong advantage.
• Experience in network deployment, installation, commissioning or troubleshooting.
• Good documentation and reporting skills.
• Bonus: experience with Optical Transport Networks (WDM), combining engineering with project coordination, or contributing to process improvements.
