Engineering Manager - Software Squad

About the role

Sonar, a code quality platform founded in Geneva and headquartered in Austin, Texas, is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a squad of 8 developers. The team builds, automates and operates software used by millions of Sonar customers worldwide, and the manager owns the team's professional growth and development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, hold the team accountable to a high engineering standard and foster a safe culture of feedback and collaboration.
• Partner with product managers, designers and team leads to define clear objectives aligned with company goals and track sprint progress.
• Contribute to and oversee technical architecture and engineering direction, and collaborate with engineering peers to share best practices.
• Recruit engineers with the hiring team and ensure onboarding takes place within the squad.
• Ensure smooth collaboration with stakeholders such as Product Managers, other developer squads, Marketing and Management.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software development or equivalent experience, with a strong understanding of software testing.
• 3+ years of leadership or management experience with a track record of building high-performing teams.
• Developer mindset: experience with the coding lifecycle, secure code, code reviews and navigating unfamiliar codebases.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Candidates must be genuinely based in the location of the role; relocation is supported for the right person.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of the Java ecosystem.
• Good knowledge of at least one programming language and its development environment.
• Strong communication, feedback and conflict-resolution skills.
