Environmental Policy Internship – UNECE Geneva

About the role

The internship is based in the Environment and Forests Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva, Switzerland. Interns will support the Division’s work on environmental performance reviews, monitoring programmes and capacity‑development activities, contributing to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing the Fourth Environmental Performance Review for the Republic of Moldova, the Regional EPR for Central Asia, and the EPR of Antigua and Barbuda, including related documentation.
• Support the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Programme, such as organizing webinars, drafting project documents, and contributing to the development of the 8th pan‑European environmental assessment and national state‑of‑the‑environment reports.
• Provide general assistance including drafting and editing documents, conducting background research, and handling correspondence as required.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme, or be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in environmental policy, environmental law, environmental sciences, international relations or a related field.
• Proficiency in English (fluency required); working knowledge of French or Russian is an asset.
• Computer literacy in standard software applications.
• Demonstrated interest in United Nations work and commitment to the UN Charter ideals.
• Ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
