Industrial Software Engineer - Railway Applications (m/w/d)

About the role

Traila develops software for rail transport and is looking for an Industrial Software Engineer for railway applications, working 80-100%. You will build robust software that operates reliably in real railway environments, from prototype to deployed systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain industrial and railway application software in C++, C#, Python or comparable technologies
• Integrate software with real hardware, sensors, actuators, controllers and DAQ systems
• Implement and troubleshoot CAN/CANopen, EtherCAT, TCP/IP and other industrial protocols
• Implement state machines, control logic and system behaviour
• Support installation, commissioning and field testing on prototypes, test systems and rail vehicles, travelling to customer and test sites when needed
• Analyse logs and interfaces to diagnose and fix software and integration issues
• Write unit, integration and system tests and contribute to HIL/SIL validation
• Own software architecture, release discipline, configuration and version control, code reviews and controlled releases
• Own cybersecurity: threat assessment, secure access, signed updates, vulnerability handling and security reviews
• Mentor colleagues, develop tools for configuration, testing and diagnostics, and keep documentation up to date

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics or equivalent practical experience
• Professional software development experience in an industrial, automation, automotive or machinery environment
• Railway software experience, including products released and maintained in service
• Experience with software interacting with real hardware and moving beyond prototypes to deployable industrial use
• Software lifecycle experience aligned with EN 50716:2023 (requirements traceability, configuration management, verification/validation); EN 50128 / EN 50657 experience is valuable
• Embedded or industrial cybersecurity experience
• Git and structured development workflows; fluent English, German is an advantage

Required skills

• C++, C# and/or Python
• Debugging and troubleshooting across software, communication and hardware interfaces
• Nice to have: industrial Linux, MATLAB/Simulink, HIL/SIL testing, EN 50155, EN 50126, EN IEC 62443-4-1 and EN IEC 62443-4-2
