Internship – Anti‑Racial Discrimination Section (Geneva)

About the role

This unpaid, full‑time internship offers a unique opportunity to support the Anti‑Racial Discrimination Section (ARDS) of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva. Interns will gain practical experience in international human‑rights work, focusing on the elimination of racial discrimination.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the ARDS in providing thematic advice and research on contemporary issues such as hate speech, religious intolerance, multiple discrimination, and systemic racism.
• Support capacity‑building activities for States, national human‑rights institutions, civil society, and UN bodies.
• Contribute to the promotion, protection, prevention, and monitoring of racism, xenophobia, and related intolerance worldwide.
• Provide secretariat support to the mandates of six mechanisms dealing with racism and related intolerance.

Required profile

• Demonstrated keen interest in human‑rights work, particularly in anti‑racial discrimination.
• Academic background in law, international relations, political science, or a related field.
• Ability to work under the guidance of a primary supervisor and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
