IT Support Engineer – Business Computing (Second‑line)

About the role

Within CERN’s FAP Department, you will join the Business Computing Quality and Service Team to deliver high‑quality IT services across the organisation. The role focuses on second‑line support for business applications, hardware coordination and continuous improvement of service processes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide second‑line support for Business Computing applications, investigating and resolving user issues.
• Coordinate hardware support, equipment interventions, office moves and replacements, and manage inventory and asset tracking.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, installation guides, knowledge‑base articles and operational procedures.
• Contribute to IT security activities, promote good security practices and identify opportunities to automate operational processes.

Required profile

• National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, with up to two years of professional experience after a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract; applicants without a university degree or with a PhD are not eligible.

Required skills

• Windows and macOS workstation administration and troubleshooting.
• Hardware deployment, inventory and asset management.
• IT support/help‑desk experience, preferably with ServiceNow.
• Technical documentation and knowledge‑management creation.
• Familiarity with IT service‑management practices and ticketing systems.
