Junior Full-Stack Software Engineer – Business Computing

About the role

CERN’s Business Computing group is looking for a motivated Junior Full-Stack Software Engineer to join a self‑organised agile team. You will contribute to the design, development, and support of enterprise applications that serve CERN’s corporate information systems across finance, HR, logistics and more.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop full‑stack enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript and React.
• Implement, test and optimise backend services and SQL database queries.
• Develop and maintain frontend features, ensuring responsive and user‑friendly interfaces.
• Configure, debug and support integration, messaging and event‑driven systems.
• Provide user and production support for both new and legacy applications.
• Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders and fellow engineers in an agile environment.
• Participate in continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and CI/CD workflows.

Required profile

• Enthusiasm for full‑stack development and willingness to learn on the job.
• Experience (or academic exposure) with Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React.
• Familiarity with relational databases, SQL optimisation and Java database integration.
• Understanding of agile development practices and collaborative teamwork.
• Comfort with modern toolchains: Git, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab), containerisation and GitOps.
