Junior Market Risk Analyst

About the role

Glencore is looking for a motivated Junior Market Risk Analyst to join its Risk team in Baar, Switzerland. You will be responsible for producing daily market risk reports for the Metals, Minerals and Coal portfolio and supporting the continuous improvement of the market risk framework.

Key responsibilities

• Generate accurate daily market risk reports (VaR, stress tests, liquidity) and manage related workflows.
• Monitor adherence to market risk appetite, flagging breaches to senior team members.
• Maintain and enhance risk calculation code in Python, VBA and Excel; implement efficiency improvements.
• Prepare ad‑hoc risk reports and slide decks for senior management.
• Analyse drivers of risk movements and explain key metrics.
• Liaise with Front Office, Finance, IT and Legal to validate data and resolve queries.
• Support investigations of high‑risk exposures and new deals, escalating recommendations as needed.
• Document and troubleshoot code, coordinate with IT for fixes, and contribute to methodology enhancements.

Required profile

• Degree in finance, statistics, mathematics, engineering or a related quantitative discipline (master’s preferred).
• 0–3 years of experience in market risk, risk analytics, trading support or a similar function.
• Familiarity with commodity markets, especially metals/mining, is an advantage.
• Understanding of derivative instruments (forwards, futures, vanilla options) and quantitative risk metrics (VaR, stress tests, Greeks, expected shortfall).

Required skills

• Practical coding skills in Python.
• Strong Excel/VBA abilities.
• Basic knowledge of SQL (desirable).
