Junior Mechanical Engineer – Quadcopter Systems

About the role

Harmattan AI is looking for a high‑drive, hands‑on Junior Mechanical Engineer to join its Quadcopter Airframe team in Lausanne. You will work directly on physical hardware, designing, prototyping, and integrating next‑generation multirotor components for mission‑critical defense applications.

Key responsibilities

• Component CAD Modeling: Create and update production‑ready 3D models and assemblies (motor mounts, brackets, battery latches, internal plates) in SolidWorks under tight deadlines.
• Electromechanical Packaging: Integrate electrical components, PCBs, sensors, actuators, and wire harnesses into compact quadcopter airframes while maintaining serviceability and thermal management.
• Rapid Prototyping & Bench Testing: Operate 3D printers, shop tools, and bench‑test setups to validate and stress‑test designs before field deployment.
• DFM & Production Documentation: Produce precise 2D manufacturing drawings, define tolerances, and generate BOMs for injection molding, CNC machining, 3D printing, and sheet‑metal fabrication.
• Cross‑Functional Execution: Collaborate with Electrical Engineering, Aerodynamics, Industrialisation, and Supply Chain to resolve packaging bottlenecks and keep hardware builds on schedule.

Required profile

• Degree: M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace or a related field.
• Experience: 0–3 years of hands‑on mechanical, robotics, or electromechanical hardware work; participation in competitive university teams (Formula Student, robotics clubs, UAV projects) is a plus.
• CAD Fluency: Fast, clean modeling skills in SolidWorks with strong parametric assembly design.
• Hands‑on DFM grounding: Understanding of manufacturing constraints such as tolerances, draft angles, and tool access for CNC, 3D‑printed, and plastic parts.
• High drive & ownership: Proactive, responsible, and able to unblock tasks under tight deadlines.
