Lead Designer – Clean Utilities (Pharma/Biotech)

About the role

You will lead the design and delivery of Clean Utilities systems for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients, guiding projects from concept through detailed design and execution. The role combines technical expertise with team leadership to ensure high‑quality, on‑time, and on‑budget delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Define customer requirements and media consumption strategies in GMP‑regulated environments.
• Design and develop Clean Utilities systems, including Purified Water (PW), Water for Injection (WFI), Clean Steam, process gases, chemical distribution, and wastewater systems.
• Prepare specifications, design documents, system layouts, routing concepts, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Lead detailed design activities and coordinate a team of 3‑5 utilities engineers and designers.
• Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints.
• Review and approve technical documentation and design packages.
• Coordinate suppliers and support engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
• Assist commissioning, qualification, and acceptance of systems.
• Participate in cross‑project knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Process, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of experience designing Clean Utilities systems, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Extensive knowledge of PW, WFI, Clean Steam, process gases, and related distribution systems; wastewater knowledge is a plus.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing technical project activities.
• Strong understanding of GMP requirements and industry standards.
• Fluency in English (B2) and German (C1); French is a plus.
• Willingness to travel on a project basis within Switzerland.
