Legal Counsel – Trade Sanctions

About the role

As a Legal Counsel – Trade Sanctions you will join the Group Legal team to advise the business on sanctions‑related matters worldwide. Working in an international group of lawyers, you will help protect and enable the company’s operations by monitoring evolving sanctions regimes and shaping risk‑mitigation strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and conduct research on complex, multi‑jurisdictional sanctions issues.
• Support investigations of potential sanctions breaches, coordinating with external counsel and regulators.
• Identify trends in UN, EU, US, UK and Swiss sanctions and translate them into practical guidance.
• Partner with Compliance and other functions to develop internal policies and guidelines.
• Maintain sanctions documentation, clauses and shared knowledge resources.
• Assist the Sanctions Lawyers Network with updates and information flows.
• Handle ad‑hoc legal topics within the Corporate Center Legal team.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law or equivalent qualification; bar admission is a plus.
• 2‑4+ years of experience in an international law firm or in‑house legal department, focusing on trade sanctions, AML or international business law.
• Strong knowledge of EU, UK, US and Swiss sanctions frameworks.
• Excellent drafting ability and capacity to convey complex legal concepts in clear guidance.
• Proactive, autonomous mindset with strong ownership and risk‑based approach.
• High integrity, sound judgement and ability to manage sensitive, time‑critical matters.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work across functions and seniority levels.
