Machine Learning Scientist

About the role

Join the Strategic Analytics team at lastminute.com to develop real‑time machine learning solutions that power the travel journey for millions of holidaymakers. You will work in a hybrid model from the Chiasso office, collaborating with scientists, engineers and project managers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop real‑time machine learning solutions for large‑scale, real‑world problems.
• Design and implement ranking algorithms based on deep learning techniques.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including software engineers, ML engineers and project managers.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a Master’s degree with at least 3 years of ML experience.
• Strong knowledge of supervised (classification, regression) and unsupervised (clustering, feature selection, dimensionality reduction) methods.
• Experience with deep learning architectures such as RNNs, CNNs and autoencoders.

Required skills

• Python and SQL.
• Scikit‑learn, Pandas, Matplotlib, NumPy, SciPy, MLflow.
• Keras/TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Uncertainty estimation techniques (Monte Carlo Dropout, Deep Ensembles) – desirable.

What we offer

• Inclusive, international environment with colleagues from 10+ countries.
• Shorter work week with half‑day Fridays and flexible start/end times.
• Hybrid work model and possibility to work remotely for a period each year.
• Professional development through e‑learning platforms and dedicated “Fri‑Yays” for deep work.
• Paid volunteering days, travel discounts, and various leave options.
