Network Administrator – ATLAS Data Acquisition

About the role

Join the ATLAS Data Acquisition (DAQ) team at CERN and help modernise one of the world’s most advanced scientific computing networks. You will work with experienced network engineers on a high‑availability, multi‑terabit‑per‑second infrastructure that supports the ATLAS experiment.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in the installation, commissioning, testing and operation of network infrastructure for the ATLAS DAQ system.
• Deploy and maintain a production‑ready monitoring and alerting solution for critical DAQ services and equipment.
• Collaborate with experts from other LHC experiments to develop scalable, future‑proof monitoring solutions.
• Support the ATLAS TDAQ laboratory’s infrastructure, equipment and resource management.
• Assist in the maintenance and evolution of DAQ hardware, including server deployment and hardware interventions.

Required profile

• Basic experience as a system or network administrator (up to two years post‑graduation).
• Hands‑on experience installing servers or switches in a professional environment.
• Ability to work in teams and communicate in English, with a willingness to learn French.
• Eligibility: national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, no prior CERN fellowship or graduate contract.

Required skills

• Fundamental knowledge of the TCP/IP stack and Ethernet networks.
• Programming in Python and Bash.
• General Linux system knowledge.
