Postdoctoral Fellow - Computational Chemistry

About the role

Syngenta Crop Protection, a crop protection company headquartered in Switzerland, is looking for a highly motivated computational chemist to join its Computational Chemistry group at the R&D site in Stein. You will drive innovation in molecular design processes, with the chance to integrate AI/ML methods with traditional computational chemistry approaches. The position is a two-year fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design of new active ingredients using computational techniques such as data analysis, predictive modelling, molecular modelling, structure- and ligand-based design.
• Work with chemists, computational chemists, biologists and other experts to devise strategies for using data and providing design inputs for chemical invention.
• Collaborate with computational chemistry colleagues across R&D to develop technology and promote state-of-the-art methods.
• Contribute to improving computational chemistry infrastructures, workflows and algorithm implementation.

Required profile

• PhD in computational chemistry or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) and distributed computing environments.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Required skills

• Strong foundation in target- and ligand-based design.
• Proficiency with modern computational chemistry and cheminformatics packages.
• Experience with computational workflows.
• Working knowledge of Python programming.
• Basic understanding of statistics and data analysis.
• Proficiency in Windows and Unix, including batch/shell scripting and CLI automation.
• Additional advantage: machine learning concepts, advanced data analysis and visualization, software development.
