Postdoctoral Researcher in Advanced Flexure-Mechanism Design

About the role

The Micromechanical and Horological Design Laboratory (INSTANT-LAB) at EPFL is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to develop a new design and modelling framework for flexure-based mechanisms. The project combines fundamental research funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation with an industrial collaboration supported by the Swiss Innovation Agency, working closely with an industrial partner whose products use adjustable-stiffness flexure-based load cells. The contract starts on 1 January 2027, is a one-year fixed-term agreement renewable once, and is based at the EPFL campus in Neuchâtel.

Key responsibilities

• Develop analytical and numerical models for flexure-based mechanisms

Required profile

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Microengineering, Robotics or a closely related field
• At least two peer-reviewed journal publications
• Strong experimental skills and a hands-on approach
• Excellent command of English; knowledge of French is an advantage
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with experience in industrial collaborations considered an asset
