Postdoctoral Researcher - International Corporate Taxation or Local Public Finance / Urban Economics

About the role

The Chair of Public Economics at the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC) at ETH Zurich is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in Zurich on a fixed-term basis. The group focuses on theoretical and empirical research in public economics such as corporate taxation, fiscal federalism and the public-economy aspects of the digital economy, using both normative and political economy analyses. Preference goes to candidates specializing in international corporate taxation or local public finance / urban economics.

Key responsibilities

• Research topics may include taxation of multinational enterprises, corporate taxation and agency conflicts, implications of international tax coordination (e.g. OECD Pillar 1 and 2), and value creation and taxation of corporate profits in the digital economy.
• Alternatively, topics may cover local tax competition and residential choices, urban amenities and policy choices, effects of intergovernmental fiscal transfers, and fiscal decentralization and residential sorting.
• Work may be based on theoretical modelling and/or empirical analysis.
• Independently conduct academic and policy-relevant research and contribute to ongoing group research projects.

Required profile

• Recently earned PhD in Economics, or close to completing the dissertation.
• Demonstrated potential for high-quality research, ideally with papers under revision or accepted for publication in refereed international journals.
• Interest in the group's topics; excellent command of English.
