Professeur-e assistant-e en sinologie (tenure track)

About the role

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Geneva invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Sinology, focusing on modern and contemporary China. The role combines teaching at bachelor, master and post‑graduate levels with supervision of master theses and doctoral dissertations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver courses on modern and contemporary Chinese history, art, culture, religion, politics or literature.
• Supervise master’s projects and PhD dissertations in the field of Sinology.
• Develop an independent research programme with national and international visibility and secure external funding.
• Participate in departmental management and contribute to the East Asian Studies unit.
• Potentially attain associate or full professorship after six years, subject to a positive evaluation.

Required profile

• PhD in humanities (or equivalent) with a specialization in modern or contemporary China.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the higher‑education level.
• Strong publication record, including a monograph (published or under contract) and articles in international journals.
• Excellent oral and written proficiency in modern Chinese and a very good command of French.
• Interest in regional dynamics (China‑Japan‑Korea) and active participation in international research networks are advantageous.
