Propulsion Engineer

About the role

Harmattan AI is building autonomous, scalable defense systems and needs a Propulsion Engineer to accelerate the development of critical hardware and software tools. You will work in a small, high‑impact team creating state‑of‑the‑art motor test benches and the Python‑based infrastructure that visualises and shares test results across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain a hardware motor test bench for measuring motor, propeller, and controller performance.
• Develop and improve internal Python tools for test‑bench operation, data visualisation, and result reporting.
• Create scripts to calculate thrust requirements and manage large datasets to extrapolate performance across hardware configurations.
• Execute motor tests, upload results to the cloud platform, and author technical reports for internal stakeholders and manufacturers.
• Participate in design meetings for new platforms, providing propulsion expertise to meet range and autonomy goals.
• Ensure visualisation tools are robust, user‑friendly, and accessible to the wider Harmattan team.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Mechatronics, Programming, or a related field; strong portfolio acceptable.
• Proven Python programming skills for data analysis, plotting, and sensor integration.
• Practical understanding of propulsion physics and experience with electric propulsion systems or UAV environments.
• Ability to autonomously deliver key features and elevate testing platforms within the first 90 days.
• Critical thinker who anticipates edge cases and bottlenecks.
• Effective communicator able to guide R&D teams and interact with manufacturers.
• Full commitment to rapid prototyping and methodical testing in a fast‑paced environment.
